Sustainable R&D centre at the Utrecht Science Park

Genmab is a new Research and Development Centre at the Utrecht Science Park. The research and development facility consists of offices, laboratories and facilitation areas, such as a science café and plaza and an auditorium. As a consultant, DWA is involved in the building services and BREEAM certification, as well as the commissioning.

Genmab is a major world player in the development of new medicines for cancer and has been an important part of the very strong cluster of cancer research at Utrecht Science Park for over 15 years. The Science Park is the location where innovative knowledge, science and business come together. The building reflects the core qualities of Genmab such as innovation, high quality, dynamics, transparency and recognisability. It has a large atrium for optimal interaction and communication between the employees of Genmab. The high quality work environment provides optimal comfort and maximum functionality and flexibility.

In terms of sustainability, the project has high ambitions: BREEAM Excellent is the aim. Various sustainable measures are being taken. For example, the use of sustainably generated energy through an Underground Thermal Energy Storage (UTES) system for heating and cooling, well insulated roofs and façades, LED lighting, a balanced ventilation system with heat and moisture recovery and approximately 300 m2 of solar panels on the roof.

The accommodation is realised by Dura Vermeer according to a design by Cepezed architects. Construction commenced at the beginning of 2016 and will be ready for use in 2018.
